Templates stay “System default” after saving

What you’ll see: You saved the templates but the status still reads “System default”.

Resolution:

Expected behavior, not a bug: if you leave both the Custom Subject Line and Custom Body Text blank and hit Save, the templates intentionally remain on “System default” so the system-managed content is used.

To customize, enter text in at least one of the two fields, then save.
To revert to system defaults, clear both fields and save again.
